Volunteer Opportunities!

Hey all!

Thanks to everyone who has already signed up for volunteer shifts at
Apo! We still have a lot of fun shifts to fill, so check out the
volunteer schedule at www.apogaea.com.

You can register online and schedule yourself for (most) shifts on
the website. If you have any questions or difficulties at all, just
shoot an email to volunteers [at] apogaea.com

Currently, we are hoping to fill some of the info booth shifts that
are listed on the calendar. At info booth, you can sit in the shaded
area, kick back and help recruit and sign up on-site volunteers,
answer people's questions and call on the radio for any needed Ranger
or 1st Aid help. We'll provide you with the answers to many common
questions, so anyone is welcome to help out in this role.

Thanks all!
Caroline

Desperately seeking sexy greeter. . .

Team Apogaea is looking for a vivacious fun loving individual with a dash of responsibility to lead our corps of greeters. Must be able to play well with others and know what it takes to make a stunning first impression. Oh yeah, other responsibilities include helping recruit / wrangle part of the greeter horde, talk smack about greeter procedures, select Danish modern furniture for the greeter station, and train shift leads how to show freshfaced Apogaea newcomers a good time. Male, female or crossdresser. . . we don’t freakin’ care. . . we’re equal opportunity.

Our highly esteemed Bobalicious has stepped down from this coveted role this year (thank you Mister B for your past service) making it available to the sexy smartypants ready to jump on our crazy ride.

Yessiree, Team Apogaea is growing by leaps & bounds. . . Uncle Dave will be your partner in crime as the lead for Gate Operations, Sidetrack joins as our Minister of All Things Placement, Teo de Fuego has signed on as Editor of the Apocrypha, Duney Dan returns as our creatively anachronistic Lead Ranger, Llavendyr as our Volunteer Logistics Mastermind, Hula Fanatic Travis is back as our fearless Emergency Services Lead, Pussie S'More as our Mistress of Events, and doubtlessly others that my fragged out attention deficit disorder lead me to neglect at the moment. But never fear, future installments will detail their contributions as well. . . So get on the bus for your chance to enjoy a variety of new surprise perks this year, in addition to our traditional Team Lead benefits:
• staff kegerator
• all you can eat baconcheesebaconburgers in our commissary
• keys to our steam powered halftrack
• map to the secret portapotty
• complimentary enrollment in our lingerie-of-the-month club
• and your very own VIP all-access badge to the hidden delights of the Infotainment booth

Okay, at least I’m not kidding about the new surprises, some of which will be unveiled at our Apogaea Town Hall on April 27th.

So if you are interested. . . please slip into something comfortable and shoot an email off to volunteers@apogaea.com so we can talk dirty. . . I mean get to know each other. . . before Apogaea Town Hall.

This year will be our 4th trip to Apogaea and the 3rd time
we’re bringing an art installation. You may remember us
by the top floor at the last Gog party, Metatron’s Cube,
and Fruit of Life from the past two years at Apo .

Here are some pics of our art:

This year we are planning something much bigger –
an installation of the night sky with 3-dimensional
constellations suspended above people’s heads.
This will be set up in the lower valley of Happy Ass Ranch .

We applied for an art grant this year, as in the past.
Unfortunately, Apo doesn’t have enough money to fully
fund all art projects, and the grant we received covers
only about a quarter of the amount we need. So instead
of abandoning our dream, we decided to raise money
the old-fashioned way – by having a fundraiser. :)

Please join us for an Apogaea art benefit on Friday March 21st, 10pm-5am .

Please come help us make this project a reality!
And while at it, have some fun and dance the night away
with the sounds of your favorite local artists and DJs playing
breaks, techno, psytrance, and IDM.

Scaffolding
dmtree

COLORADO: Meet, Greet, Potluck,RC's, and free stuff!

Meet & Greet/Potluck

Sunday, April 6th
3:00 PM

800 Pennsylvania St
Denver, CO 80203

Come out and meet your community! Meet the Burning Man RC's from
Denver, Boulder, Colorado Springs, and Summit County. We will also
have a couple of visiting BM staff members as our special guests.

This potluck is an opportunity to sit with your Burning Man Regional
Contacts, ask us questions, suggest projects that you have an interest
in, introduce your BM granted art project and solicit help, weigh in
on Apogaea, the Recompression and the Decompression, connect up with
leaders of theme camps on the playa, etc. We know that you want to
have a voice in the future of your community, so come and speak up!

The building that we are meeting in has an indoor, heated pool and hot
tub so bring your swim suits. There is a pool table and ping-pong as
well. So, cook up your favorite dish and come out of your winter
hibernation!

As an added incentive, (this is absolutely a bribe, because we really
want to everyone to come :) we brought back piles of Burning Man
schwag from the Regional Summit. There will bee free stickers,
postcards, posters, and buttons for everyone!

THINGS THAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

PARKING:
Behind the building in the alley between Pennsylvania and Pearl, on
the 8th Ave end, is a parking lot. It is marked with "Don't park here
or you will be towed" signs. You can park there. (It's rented out to
an office during the week, but is fair game on weekends)

ENTRANCE:
YOU WILL NOT WANT TO ENTER THE MAIN FRONT DOOR! Along the front of the
building you will see a large rack of bikes. Behind that is a set of
steps leading down to a door. This is the entrance that you want.

BRING:
Please bring your own plates, utensils, beer/drinks, cups, and a dish
to share. If the weather is amicable, we will have a grill going.
Don't forget a swim suit and a towel, last time we had to scrounge up
shorts for the people who hadn't intended to swim but were enticed by
the warm steamy hot tub. :)

Looking for used turf and golf clubs

Hey everybody,
I'm going to be creating "The Apogaea Cup" - "Open Invitational Wiffle Golf Tournament" at Apogaea this year. It will be Colorado's premier undergorund wifffle golf course & event.
In addition to looking for people who are interested in playing and helping, I'm searching for about a dozen used golf clubs. Looking for Right and Left handed clubs, preferably irons between #3 and #9, adult and junior. Old, dinged, dusty, and rusty, clubs are perfect for this application.

Also looking for used or new pieces of artificial grass for the putting greens. Any size, shape, color, or length of old turf or outdoor carpet is usable, as I will be trying to create greens with multiple types of turf, to simulate different lengths of grass.
I've found a carpet store in Dalton, GA that has a large selection of artificial turf at decent prices, but, if I can find some scraps or used turf for free or cheap, that would be awesome.

If your interested in learning more about "The Apogaea Cup", want to join the pro team, or just want to talk about golf movies....then check out my tribe at: http://tribes.tribe.net/cowifflegolf or send an email to: xarakitty@yahoo.com

Thanks,
-Casey

Kids Camp Needs You!

Kids Camp needs a new ringleader and is looking for someone who is a child at heart, but has the sense of an adult to keep it all in line, making sure both the little people and the BIG people can have a safe and enjoyable event.

The organizer of Kids Camp has stepped down this year, leaving the position open. This is YOUR community and YOUR camp, so step right up and make sure it happens! If you have loved Kids Camp in the past, this is your time to make sure the dream continues. If you've hated it in the past, this is your time to get involved and make it what you want it to be.

Kids Camp has traditionally been a fun place for families to camp, where they can share child care responsibilities and engage in youth friendly activities. Puppet shows, balloon animals, tie dye, snacks, hooping, camp building, bubble blowing, water fights, art projects, story telling, underwater basket weaving, or building an entire theme camp around kid's camp! (e.g. Munchkinland)... the ideas are endless! What will it be this year? It’s up to you.

Ideas? Questions on what’s involved or how to start? Just want to help? Please contact chel.C at apogaea dot com. We’ll get you the info you need.

Remember, Apogaea is YOUR world to create what you desire. Unleash your brain, and let us know what you find.

With child-like glee,
Your Apogaea Board of Directors

PS. In anticipation of the normal questions, here’s a bit more info on kids at Apogaea: Children under 18 are welcome at Apogaea with their guardians. They are not required to camp at Kid’s Camp. Guardians ARE responsible for their children at all times, and assume all risk for bringing their children to the event. All children must be under adult supervision at ALL TIMES.

Git yer Pink on. . . this Friday

You probably don't need to be reminded about tomorrow night's festivities, but I did think it worthwhile to mention that the ladies of the PPP have been knocking out all the stops for this particular shinidig. They've even been bustin' out the power tools (not that kind of power tool you filthy animal) for this event. Just thought you should know. . .

We have a wicked heavy funk line-up on tap, including Earth, Yahya, SchmidE vs. Xarakitty, the lovely MLE and yours truly. And along with some other stimulating additions that we'll mum for now, we're also welcoming a performance from Orange Peel Moses, who's making the show in spite of his recent battle with the knife. So you have no excuse not to show up.

BTW, there will be a little fundraiser for OPM in a couple of weeks, details are here if you'd like to show up, wish him well and contribute a little against his medical bills:

http://www.evite.com/pages/invite/printView.jsp?event=OPTYRNMJTJTPXXIJAYHA

More party details are at the new Pink Pussie Parlour website where you can now sign up as member of the Pink Pussie Posse. Check it out:

http://www.pinkpussieparlor.com/

Remember, only $6 for entry before 11, $8 after.

Until tomorrow night's bass-fueled funky lower body group massage extravaganza, yours in pink. . .

I know Apogaea is over 4 months away, but do you have any crazy fun ideas you want to share. The best way to make your dreams reality are to put them on paper, so let's start sharing ideas. Earth and I are thinking about doing a white elephant exchange, christmas tree and all! Bring something burnerish you don't use (nothing crappy) be it costumes, camping gear, or gifts and share it with your CO community. Let's turn the gift economy into community, and have some fun doing it. I see stories and adventures being told about these gifts, as well as lots of friends being made.

Looking forward to your ideas!

For those of you who are in or near Colorado or will be on March 20th, a chance to demonstrate the amazing creative energy and costume brilliance on display routinely on the playa, here's something that may give you the chance to strut that sartorial brilliance with equal unconventionality you demonstrate on the playa:

CALL FOR ENTRIES!
Art Directors Club of Denver
2008 PAPER FASHION Design Teams

If you'd like to be involved in a high-fashion runway show that's creative, fun, and benefits the creative community, now is your chance.

Deadline to sign up: February 1, 2008.

ADCD is now signing up teams to design paper fashion creations to be modeled in our runway show on March 20th, 2008.

What is the ADCD Paper Fashion Show?
Teams sign up to design fashions created from paper that's donated by our sponsors. These fashions are then showcased at our grand runway show, and voted on by our panel of judges. The fashions are then put up for auction to raise money for the charitable recipient benefiting from the event.

Check out the video from last year at:
adcd.com/paperfashion07.mov

Event specifics:
Designs may be for men or women. Your designs will be showcased by runway models—you may provide your own model, or we can provide talent for you. We will also provide hair and make-up services for models if needed. The event will feature a social where attendees can mix & mingle; the highlight of the event being the runway show featuring local entertainment and your paper fashions being modeled and voted on by our panel of judges.

You may have as many people on your team as you wish - and there is no cost for participating. However, a maximum of 4 people per team will receive free admission, any additional team members receive the discounted ticket price of $10 (standard tickets are $25).

Final teams will be assigned the first week in February, so if you are interested in participating and creating a paper fashion, please email us at the address below ASAP, and we'll get in touch with you to follow up and provide more details and direction.

Me and my two hommies just got a gig in Telluride for a stomp influenced percussion session for a few days at the ski and snowboard festival. We have tons of percussion toys but never knew a metal trash can would cost so much. in which case we need your help. we just want to borrow, if interested, buy. None the less the event is the 13 & 14 of December. Any can, buckets or anything you feel is fun to hit with a drum stick in a rhythmic motion. Let us know, any help is needed. please be quick so we can have some time to rehearse.
Thank you all.

Denver Decompression...yes it's happening!

Hello everyone!

Your local happy-assed volunteer coordinator here again! :)

The scoop from Ronnie:

"Before the playa dust has completely settled and our heads have
stopped spinning, many of us gather in the months after Burning Man to
"decompress" by taking one more communal plunge into the depths of
what we found so affirming and memorable at Burning Man this year.
Decompression is an opportunity to dust off and share again playa art,
performances, theme camps, photos, videos and stories from the playa;
to re-connect with family and friends; and collaborate to create new
art. It is, at its simplest, a reunion. But more significantly, it is
a thoroughly participatory celebration of Burning Man art and
community within our larger communities and it is one of the more
powerful ways many of us bring some of what is so inspiring about
Burning Man to our cities and the rest of the year!

For more information please visit www.DenverBurningMan.com

I know, Cafe @ Netherworld is a small venue, they already have art on the walls - there is no way this Decompression is going to be hugely off-the-hook. ..

Nope, it's a gathering, a reunion and we can pack the house in a Colorado family way. This decompression is all about a more intimate environment to help heal wounds within this community. To reminisce and be packed in to where we can't help but to face each other and hug.

With that said -
We'll have the day of to decorate and prepare the space.
We're asking for people to bring down the things they decorate their camps with, discs of all of your burning photos to play on the projectors, gifts to trade, art to show, maybe the blueprints of your scheduled 08 projects...

Let's start having meetings on Wednesday nights about 7pm at Cafe Netherworld, it's open to anyone who wants to help make this gathering a true Playa Reunion. We can look at the space, collect our decorations and plan on how to quickly put it all together the day of. We have 3 weeks to figure it all out, we can do it - I have faith!

THE official HOUSE COOLING (party)

Come to Nat's house...help suck out the energy, junk, and trash...7 years of stuff...time to clean out and get out. And yes, you will be able to take home *some* of Nat's treasure as your very own.

She is moving from Parker to Denver *finally*...so much better for her soul...closer to her office, her kid stuff, her art.

This is about packing and cleaning...not putting anything into a moving vehicle as that is not scheduled yet.

Mark your calenders: Saturday, November 17, 2007. All day.

PLEASE EMAIL ME DIRECTLY FOR THE ADDRESS AS TRIBE IS KINDA HUGE AND WE DON'T WANT NAT'S ADDRESS *THAT* PUBLIC.

The rest of the info is below from the original post. No need to email me this time...just show up. Like the good little helpers I know you are.

faith, over and out. Wow...a whole email from me without any swearing. Fuck yeah! *grin* Had to do it.

Nat the Bat, our wonderful Queen, and my very dear friend, currently
lives in Parker.

WAAAAAY far away from anything that is good for her life or anything
that promotes her inner happiness.

She needs to move. I am asking whomever wants to help to send me an
email please. I am shooting for 1 day near the end of this month or
the beginning of October. A handful of helpers. We help her pack,
help her tidy up her yard, and on another future day after she is
moved out, we help her clean up the house and do a few little things
that many hands could get done in a few hours.

Now this *IS NOT* one of those moves where you get free beer and pizza.

Did I mention she's one mama, one kid, and a few pets. Yeah. So
please consider bringing a potluck dish and whatever it is you drink.

She has offered to pick people up in Denver to come help her...which
is pretty darn cool...or you can grab a friend and carpool...whatever
works for you.
This is one of those rare magical times where you can sit back and say...

"you know, I've always wanted to build _____"

and some really tall kinda crass mofo in a cowboy hat will say "ok! apply for an art grant and GO DO IT"

Truly. It's like being a kid and wishing for what Santa would bring, only he really brings it. No, no, I'm not sayin' E-Vol is Santa (ok maybe that would be fun!) but I tell ya I went to that park today with my spawn in tow, I was hesitant that the meeting would suck and it was gettin' cold-n-rainy...

...but I left that park motivated with all sorts of CRAZY idears and not ONE, but THREE contacts for the peeps in our community that will help the Brass Ball Bitches turn a VW Bus into an 'effin FLAME THROWER for Apo Oh Ate.

HELL YEAH!

Get on board kiddos. This years theme is Service to the Community. So get off yer dirty little knees (Fucking Lee will take over where you left off bebe) and apply for an ART GRANT right here: creativegrants@apogaea.com

I'm not happy with your lack of motivation!
I'm gonna kick yer ass in THUNDERDOME if I catch you whining about how you had this great idea and you were too LAZY to apply for a little money to get it done.
Yes, if you are a starving artist (I hear the starvation makes us more creative?!) the Apo people will give you money to create your Apo project.
It does not get any easier than that.
I will not write the grant for you.

If your head is not popping off from anticipation towards APOGAEA 2008, then I am really really not happy with you. And I'm your bartender. And you always want your bartender happy.

Go now. Create. NOW!
A call out to the unusual suspects. . .

Who among you will step up to help Project Apogaea reach the stars and spare us from shooting any more innocent monkeys into space? Say whaaaht. . . monkeys?!?

Just what does that monkey think sittin' on top of a rocket ready to be shot into space? Space monkey! Ready to sacrifice for the greater good! It takes that special consciousness to volunteer for this mission. Without commitment, without sacrifice, we would have nothing. Never forget that first monkey who got shot into space!

Please make no mistake, we are not addressing YOU as a lower order primate. We do not even suggest you were raised by chimpanzees or you had your tail removed shortly after your birth. Instead we recognize you’re that sentient being who evolves from the immediacy of experience and community participation. We cherish you not only for your opposable thumbs, but also for your conscious sacrifice and intrepid test pilot daring, both of which lead us to new frontiers.

Please join us as the experiment continues. . . Help us build community and perform good deeds on behalf of our fellow apes. Show us how participation can be fun and be performed with style. Your contributions help us all punch through the stratos and reach the great beyond. Upon our splashdown to the mundane world, our service together will mark a transformative difference for both ourselves & our community as we step forth from our fiery space capsule.

Community service manifests itself in many forms, we ask you to contribute your passion and action in whatever capacity you might gift them to us. 2008 is the year of the Volunteer for Apogaea. We hope to see Apogaea become a new model for a collaborative event. In the early 19th century, the State of Tennessee became famous for answering the call for 2,800 volunteers with 30,000. How many can we muster for Apogaea?

Our theme for next year is Service to the Community. We have a few creative ideas cooking around this already, above and beyond the glorious and heroic Space Monkeys. But we hope you too will help us define this important element of Apogaea that makes the event possible and will be ever more critical for growing the event in the future.

Please join us at the Apogaea Town Hall Social tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, 2:00-4:00. We’re meeting at the Cheeseman Park Pavilion if the weather is decent, and at the Gog if it’s spitting freezing rain, maybe check your email around noon if you are not sure. And please BYO? to share, but no glass bottles as that makes tha Man angry.

Nat the Bat, our wonderful Queen, and my very dear friend, currently lives in Parker.

WAAAAAY far away from anything that is good for her life or anything that promotes her inner happiness.

She needs to move. I am asking whomever wants to help to send me an email please. I am shooting for 1 day near the end of this month or the beginning of October. A handful of helpers. We help her pack, help her tidy up her yard, and on another future day after she is moved out, we help her clean up the house and do a few little things that many hands could get done in a few hours.

Now this isn't one of those moves where you get free beer and pizza. Did I mention she's one mama, one kid, and a few pets. Yeah. So please consider bringing a potluck dish and whatever it is you drink.

She has offered to pick people up in Denver to come help her...which is pretty darn cool...or you can grab a friend and carpool...whatever works for you.
Dancing the Wild Divine, a Playa Tale

A ninety-foot tall oil derrick bore spiritless witness to nine gigantic steel humans in various poses of prostration and supplication. Crude Awakening, the installation on the edge of the open playa was called, and throughout the week I found myself vaguely annoyed by this piece. Impressed by the scale and ambition, most certainly, but isn’t that theme overwrought? Yes, we worship petroleum. Surely everybody gets that by now. Even the people running generators all day in their RVs understand that.

So there are those who say that Burning Man is hypocritical, wasteful, hedonistic, and false. They are correct, in their own way, but not as correct as those who, when asked what Burning Man is like, simply shake their heads and fall into gazes faraway, as if remembering a lost love, for Burning Man is nothing if it’s not heartbreaking. To witness how beautiful everyone is when they allow themselves to be free, to see how we all want to dance, to love, to be authentic, and then to return to the antithesis of all of this, the workaday world of anxiety, insecurity, guardedness, where people are who they think they should be rather than who they actually are, this is heartbreak.

But of course, the heart can only break open.

There seems sometimes to be an anticipatory sense that something is going to *happen* at Burning Man. Aside from the hundreds of people you meet, aside from the uncanny synchronicities, aside from the hookups, aside from the startlingly original art, aside from the burning of the man, there is an undefined mysterium tremendum that reverberates through the event, as if the event itself is the center of a vortex that has been pulling you toward it for months, a wormhole that threatens to leave you in a whole new world on the very same planet.

At least, this is what happened to me. I first attended Flipside, a regional burn outside of Austin, Texas, over Memorial Day weekend. As it happened, I walked into Whole Foods on the Thursday prior and promptly ran into a friend who was stocking up on provisions on her way out. She asked me if I was going, and in the supreme confidence of unabashed ignorance, I shrugged and said, “naw, that’s not my scene.” You know, hypocritical, wasteful, hedonistic, false, all that. But she told me I should go if I could find some tickets, and this challenge was at least diverting, and I remembered a friend who’d told me months ago that he had a Flipside ticket but didn’t think he was going so I called him and it turned out he was going after all, so sorry man. No worries, didn’t think I really wanted to go in the first place, but then he calls back a few hours later—his girlfriend had just broken up with him—to see if I still wanted a ticket. Sure, I said, not at all sure, but it’s only forty-five minutes outside of town, and I figured I’d just drive over, walk around and check it out for the night. I grabbed two bananas, two apples, two avocadoes, and two gallons of water and headed out. I arrived back home three days later, having been perfectly provided for, and shining like I’d just witnessed a solar eclipse at sunrise.

But this is all just prologue. The summer following Flipside and preceding Burning Man, I found myself taunted by periodic dreams, difficult to describe but having something to do with a pulse at the center of Burning Man, some ominous storm of consciousness that first swiped me off my feet with Flipside and was now drawing me into a rebirth canal before hurling me into points unknown. One dream in particular I remember clearly: Upon arriving at Burning Man, someone pointed at me friendly and demanded, “why are you here?” I awoke to the echoes of my unhesitant reply: “To completely let go of my former relationship.” As I was still recovering from the splinters of a broken eleven and a half year relationship, there was now no obstacle too great to prevent me from making the 3500 mile round trip to Black Rock City. And as fate would have it, I ran into my former partner two days before I left for Burning Man. A poignant sadness passed between us, but she looked good. She looked fantastic.

But on to Burning Man. The portentous soundtrack upon my arrival happened to be Seal’s “Crazy.” "We’re never gonna survive unless we get a little crazy." An auspicious opening to a crazy week spectacular, though it did not really begin until I made my early pilgrimage to the Temple to write my prayer, citing Rumi, "All I ask is that you forever remember me as loving you." After that, my week began in earnest, and I could regale you with tales all night long and my eyes would sparkle and enthusiasm would strain my voice, but let me just tell you about the night of the burn itself. Atop Abraxas the Dragamuffin, a brilliantly-realized work of rolling art in action owing itself to the effort of the Solarians, I had an excellent view of the burning of the man. I wish I could say that it blew my mind, but really it was just a big fireworks and laser show surrounded by the Zippos of the 21st century, thousands of glowing LCD screens as the assembled watched it via the viewfinders of their digital cameras, saving instead of savoring the moment. Fun, yes, but missing was the mystery. Of course, what I did not yet realize was that the burning of the man is not the climax of Burning Man. It is only the blast-off.

It was in the disorderly dispersion after the burning of the man that I began to feel the pulse I had known in my dreams, an emergent rhythm simmering beneath our feet, and we reconvened a couple of hours later at Crude Awakening out on the edge of the open playa to witness the burning of the oil derrick. Again atop Abraxas, I am huddled and cuddled with shipmates reincarnated from a glorious pirate ship, fireworks and lasers, oh my, and then… and then… I don’t know if I gasped or if all the air was sucked out of my lungs by the detonation of the largest controlled propane explosion in the world, a Guinness I guess, 900 gallons of NASA jet fuel and 2000 gallons of liquid propane and oh my god a thousand foot high mushroom cloud churning hellish red and demon black, 2.4 gigawatts of energy, just enough to power the entire Bay Area for one minute (or, come to think of it, two trips back to the future in Doc’s De Lorean…), and the only thing more wow fantastic than this is the firelit faces around me, fireshadows flickering across their wide-open eyes, transfixed in apocalyptic wonder.

And you know, the word apocalypse derives from the Greek word, apokalyptein, which means, “to unveil.” And there was indeed a renting of the veil that night, an opening into a realm where every encounter is authentic, and consequently, deeply meaningful. I had painted the word IMPULSE across my chest in fluorescent white, and as the night wore on I discovered that this was as much invitation as invocation. I was hugged, kissed, licked, squeezed, nibbled, massaged, hit on, and slashed with chocolate, and before long I became the impulse, daring the impulse from whomever chose my presence. During one extended moment, I shared an hour long shoving loving shouting kissing encounter with a woman bursting out of her chrysalis. She showed me how tightly our spirits are crammed into this life, how our bodies are but leotards for our soul, and how our soul just wants to dance, and dance we damn did and nighttime disappeared into blackness all around and there was she and there was me orbiting around one another like Shiva and Shakti growling and grinning across the galaxy, and this is not even the climax.

Finding my way to Opulent Temple, I’m aware of an uncanny sensation of familiarity, of recognizing everything that is happening, a sort of “oh yeah, this is the part where I share an extended shamanic dance on the open playa,” or, “oh yeah, this is when I kiss a pregnant woman’s belly,” or, “oh yeah, this is when I throw it down with a dozen other dancers at Opulent Temple,” as if it all happened in one bright shining moment, a big bang, and life is a vastly reduced awareness of that moment that is right now, and gods and goddesses are dancing the dance their bodies have been dying for, impulses pulsing timeless and tireless and oh yeah this is the part when the dance floor opens around me and surrounds me and eyes are so bright like stars of the night and I am between now and nowever and we are so fucking lucky to be alive.

A dragon breathes fire in the distance and I heed the call of my shipmates and make my way toward the mothership, noting the sky rosy on the horizon and thinking holy cow what a night but it has yet hardly begun. Abuzz with activity, setting the generator a-rumble, bolting into place a platform for spinning, samurai warriors are striding about, preparing for the final assault upon the ego panting upon the periphery, for we have sailed out upon the dead calm of this dry lakebed to do battle only with ourselves, and we won, and we are a float in our own victory parade, and Bassnectar is spinning and people come together to dance the dawn awake and my are we alive today as the sunrise pales next to the light shining out of the eyes of everyone and how are we so beautiful and Seth good brother that he is grabs my shoulder and points to Crude Awakening and do you see how now that the derrick is burned they’re actually worshipping the sunrise?

And I would have wept but my grin would permit me only to dance for I was not yet done and oh yeah this is the part where I’m dancing on the catwalk and a sparkling woman joins me and writhes in close but then something in me closes imperceptibly and I humor her for a couple of minutes before dancing my way away and down the ladder I go and I take three steps and happen to glance back and she’s leaning over the railing and glaring at me in aggressive compassion and where do you think you’re going get back up here and I comply yes I do and regard the dance proper ‘cause you’re not really dancing till you imagine that you are making love and I clearly see how I have been breaking the circuit of sexuality in my life ever since my split and she doesn’t know how she healed me and I don’t know how I healed anyone around me but it happened all the same and the deejay lays down Frou Frou’s “Let Go,” and an exhilaration of epic healing gasps into atmosphere and we dance, and dance, and dance the wild divine.

Epilogue: The next night, during the Temple burn, I watched in somber fascination as it collapsed, sighing satisfied as a wave of cheers swept round and round. Later, I was having a snack with a friend and she asked me if I had let go of what I wanted to let go of and it occurred to me that my former relationship had not crossed my mind all week, not even during the Temple burn. I forgot to let go, I said, realizing that letting go requires no effort, no remembrance, and certainly no action. It requires only release, and acceptance, and that I forgot to let go only demonstrates my success in doing so.

Thank you to all who shared this experience with me. It is surely the morning we will return to upon our death.

My wife and I are looking for a ride from Boulder to the Burn. We are a couple of New Yorkers who are visiting friends and family before we go to the Playa. We are meting our camp mates there.

We are fun, creative ( I put on the Body Temple events in NYC), responsible and willing to chip in.
We will not be taking much gear because we will be in a RV.

Thanks and Blessings

PLease help save a BM 07 funded Colorado Glacier Art prodject!!!

Help Save one of the last Glaciers in Colorado Burning Man Style!

A very kind man by the name of EHRON ASHER has put together a very serious proposal to build a large piece of art at burning man this year. It is the Black Rock Glacier. A Large piece of art made to resemble a melting glacier. The project was designed to be made of steel and plastic water bottles.

His Description:
summary of main features
* A towering, 6 pillared glacier fortress, made with plastic water
bottles.
* The innermost chamber is a refuge from the desert heat, as the air
is chilled -- and clean, drinkable, ice-cold water drips from plastic
water bottle stalactites, from which participants may fill their own
bottles, cups, and camelbacks.
The Black Rock Glacier is intended to provoke contemplations and raise questions
around the relationship between humans and the rest of the natural world. Exploring the
uniquely human cycle where a basic need grows into desire -- desire becomes greed --
greed leads to excessive gluttony, then scarcity or depletion… returning it to a basic
need.
Does human consumption of natural resources, whether out of need or desire, have
consequences? Does the sight of 20,000+ plastic bottles disturb you enough to not fill
your own plastic bottle/camelback reservoir/etc with the glacier’s ice cold water? What
part do you play in furthering the depletion of the planet’s resources? Does your own
use of plastics and other ‘everyday’ petroleum based products fuel war for oil? Why do I
pay more for a gallon of bottled water than I do for a gallon of gas?

Ehron did a really fantastic job planning and outlining this amazing idea. Please see the website and PDF plan at http://www.serendipityarts.com/blog/ He was awarded a very fair sum of money from Burning man for the building of the glacier and has a really great start putting the whole thing together. Most of the bottles have been collected All of the steel has been purchased and much of that has been cut to specs. What he and his team are missing is additional manpower to get it put together and into the truck so it can be on the playa on time. They need many more people to help with the bottle attachment job, and a few people that can help with steel work (grinding, bolting and painting). Just part of a day from every burner in Colorado would be more than adequate to accomplish this. I’m not sure how many art projects have been built by Colorado Burners, but this large scale, funded project is sure to be remembered by many for years to come.

The location where it is being built is in a old lumber yard in Louisville. It is in between Denver and Boulder. There is plenty of room for everyone to build, park and even camp if you want to stay the night. Please consider donating a day or even an afternoon in the next few weeks to help get this to burning man. Without additional help it just may melt before it gets there.

Thank you for reading this and pass it on to any burners you know in the state.
For directions to volunteer please call Ehron @

my boyfriend saw an incredible teepee tent at wakarusa. he describes it as being about 15 ft. at the peak and about 20 ft. in diameter. it wasn't a traditional teepee and was definitely nylon. we would love to have this for burning man...does anyone know where we could find such a thing?

Alrighty, we know all you artistic, off-beat, community-shaping, world-changing, outside-the-box-thinking individuals have all sorts of opinions about every topic underneath the sun.

Today's your lucky day, as the Board of Apogaea Directors would like to give you a soap box to stand on.

This is your LAST CHANCE to complete the Apogaea 2007 survey, and tell us precisely what you loved and didn't love about the event. How can we rock your world even harder next year?

Or... if you just want to brag about your late night activities in pure anonymity -- Here's your chance! (c'mon we need something to keep us laughing at these meetings!)

The survey will be closed on Monday, so click now and tell us all the sordid details.
